SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK MAKES THEIR
JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER DEBUT
Remembering Nina, Odetta & Miriam
April 15-16
Who/What:
Sweet Honey In The Rock's debut performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, “Remembering Nina, Odetta, and Miriam,” will not only celebrate three distinct voices of the civil rights era, Nina Simone, Odetta, and Miriam Makeba, but for the first time they will also perform with musicians. The show will include songs presented in their signature a cappella style and several with a jazz trio featuring, pianist and music director Stacey Wade, Parker McAllister on bass, Jovol Bell on drums/percussion. Sweet Honey In The Rock is comprised of Ysaye Maria Barnwell, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, and Shirley Childress Saxton.
As many long-time fans of Sweet Honey In The Rock are aware, this talented group considers sign language interpretation an important part of their performance.
