Join Hue-Man Bookstore and Symphony Space for a unique book
event. PAGE TO STAGE, a groundbreaking multimedia experience,
is a “concert of words” in which books will be the “symphonic"
foundation for a night of incredible performances and conversation.
Featuring bestselling authors, "Young and the Restless" star Victoria Rowell,
legendary filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles; iconic, actor, writer and
comedian Paul Mooney, NY1 anchor Cheryl Wills, political analyst Keli Goff,
Cheetah Girl creator Deborah Gregory, and America’s first African-American
female combat pilot, Vernice ‘FlyGirl’ Armour -- their work will be re-imagined
by award-winning director, Ozzie Jones, who has previously
directed for Ntozake Shange and others.
After the hour-long performance, the evening will continue with a spirited
conversation on topics ranging from race and class to love and family
and much more. Pioneering filmmaker Lisa Cortes, executive producer of the
Academy Award winning film “Precious,” will moderate the panel and engage
the audience in a talk back. PAGE TO STAGE will benefit the
Melvin Van Peebles Foundation to promote literacy.
